A pair of sophomores provided offensive fireworks for Anderson County High School’s boys basketball team in its final game of the 2022 calendar year.

Brandon Dake scored 29 points and Hayden Craig added 16 to lift the Mavericks past Maryville Christian School 76-54 Friday night in Blount County.

Dake scored 24 of his 29 points from beyond the 3-point arc against the Eagles.

It was ACHS’s fourth win it its last five games after the team got off to a slow start of the season.

“We’re playing like a team,” Anderson County Coach Jordan Jeffers said.

“We’re at home for the next two weeks and we’ll be a home a lot during the second half of the season and that’s not a bad thing,” he said.

“We’re getting a rotation, but we don’t always know what players are in the rotation,” Jeffers said. “But we’ve gotten to where we’re playing 11 players every night.”

Eight of Anderson County’s final 13 games of the season will be at ACHS.

Jeffers said it’s important for the Mavericks (6-8) to protect their home court.

“We’ve just got to keep that momentum and it’s going to be important for us to win at home,” Jeffers said.

“We haven’t had a lot of home games early, but we have to play well at home.
