Growing pains continue for Clinton High Dragons

The growing pains continued Monday night for the young Clinton High School boys basketball team.

The Dragons had a long night as they dropped their sixth-consecutive game.

Clinton (7-16) came up on the short end of an 83-42 decision at Hardin Valley Academy.

The Dragons fell behind 26-10 in the first quarter and never recovered from the slow start against the Hawks.

The Hawks (19-4) are one of the most-improved Class 4A teams in the area under first-year Head Coach Andy Arendt.

HVA had 13 players find their way into the scoring column. The Hawks, however, had just two players post double figures as Ben Brophy had 15 points, while Barron Scheetz finished with 14. Jack Smith scored eight points.

Clinton freshman Bryson Maddux was the only Dragon player to score 10-plus points as he finished the contest with 14 points in the final game of a five-game road trip. Jeremiah Lee added nine points, and Lebron Booker finished with eight.

CHS Head Coach Chris Lockard left the game in the second quarter as he was light-headed. He came back from the locker room after halftime and provided a bit of color commentary on the local radio broadcast.

Clinton will return home to the Don W. Lockard Gymnasium Friday when it will host Scott in the final regular-season District 4-AA tilt of the 2022-23 campaign.

Tipoff is slated for approximately 7:30 p.m., and the Dragons (2-3 in league play) will attempt to sweep the Highlanders and finish at the .500 mark in district competition.

Clinton dropped a 79-71 district game at Halls Friday night despite getting 23 points from Lee and 11 from Booker.
