Crosstown baseball rivals Coal Creek and River City met for a double header at Jaycee Park Monday night.

The Bulls and River Boys split the two games through some intermittent rain. River City notched a 10-9 comeback victory, while the Bulls claimed the nightcap, 7-6.

In Game 1, Coal Creek opened a 5-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Mo Clark led off the frame with a single and stole second before coming home on a single by Easton Beaty.

A.J. Colorusso also walked and scored in the frame, and Aydin Bond chipped in with a two-run single past shortstop before Reece Wilkerson had an RBI single to make it 5-0.

The River Boys then scored two runs in the bottom of the inning as Matthew Denton had an RBI double and Alex Duggins came up with a scoring single.

The Bulls scored two runs in the third to make it 7-2 before River City pulled to within 7-4 in the bottom of the frame.

Trailing 9-7 heading to the bottom of the fifth, the final inning, the River Boys scored three runs in their final at-bat and claimed the victory on a walk-off double by Aden Golden.

Isaiah Slaven and Harrison Shelton each homered in the game for the River Boys.

Beaty had a pair of hits and drove in three runs, while Bond had a hit and two RBIs to lead the Bulls (3-1), who were seeing their first action since May 25, when they swept a double header from the NABF Freebirds at home.

Coal Creek bounced back to win the nightcap, claiming a 7-6 victory while overcoming a 6-1 second-inning deficit.

The Bulls scored six runs in the fourth.

Daniel Unthank had the game-winning hit as he came up with a two-run single in the top of the sixth. Unthank finished the contest with two hits.

While Coal Creek was idle last week, the River Boys (4-2-1) played seven games since June 1.

River City opened its season June 1 with a doubleheader against the Townsend Mountainmen. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie, and the Mountainmen won 2-1 in the nightcap.

“We were in a couple of pitchers’ duels,” said River City Coach Rob Stacy. “The one thing I wanted to see was our pitchers throw more first-pitch strikes, but we weren’t that upset about it.”

The River Boys hosted a tournament Saturday and defeated the Knoxville Falcons 14-4. River City also posted a 10-2 win over the Diamond Tar Heels.

On Sunday, River City shut out the Tar Heels 9-0.

Coal Creek and River City were set to play a doubleheader Tuesday at Anderson County High School.
