Johnny and Chelsea Baker opened their new business, Baker House Wholesale, last week at 746 S. Charles G. Seivers Blvd. in Clinton.

The business, which is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day but Thursday, sells a variety of closeout merchandise ranging from health and beauty items to electric tools, lawn equipment, household electrics and much more.

Baker House operates in the former location of Clinton Rentals and, most recently, was the home of Harris Motors.

As the Bakers continue to build their business, they plan to offer a variety of supplies and material for landscapers, including mulch, gravel, pea gravel, topsoil, and plants, said Johnny Baker, who also operates a tree service company in Clinton.

“We also plan to offer firewood and rough-cut lumber,” he said.

The landscaping material will be stored on the lot outside the building, which is surrounded by a tall chain-link security fence. That part of the business will cater mostly to contractors, Baker said.

Inside, the merchandise is intended for the general public, and is wide and varied, and changes with new additions about every day, he said.

“We have tools, small electrics, tillers, chainsaws and more,” Baker said. “We’re going to have a little bit of something for everyone.”

Among items in the store last weekend were wheelchairs, walkers, sports equipment, home décor, toiletries and more.

The business held its grand opening on Saturday, after a three-day “soft opening” that began on Wednesday.

Baker said that once the landscaping supplies are ready, the business most likely will open as early as 7 a.m. to accommodate contractors. The general business hours may be tweaked according to demand, he added.
