Oak Ridge Senior Center brings back medals from Senior Olympics

  • Ruth Gove, Tony Capozzi and Jinny Longee with their medals.

  • Jinny Longee won gold in the women’s singles (90-94); gold in the women’s doubles (85- 89); and gold in the mixed doubles (80-84).

  • Geoff Tillett and Greg Hamilton won bronze in the men’s doubles. Hamilton added a silver in mixed doubles.

Several local table tennis players traveled to Franklin’s Academy Park June 28 to play in the state finals of the Senior Olympics.

Ruth Gove, Jurgen Dopatka, Geoff Tillett, and Greg Hamilton joined Tony Capozzi from Kingston and Jinny Longee from Crossville to compete in age groups ranging from 60-94 in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.

Linh Le and Ben Burgoa traveled to the finals to observe and support the players.

Local players brought back several medals from the competition.

Numbers in parentheses indicate the age group. In doubles, the age group was based on the younger player. Seventy-nine players competed.

The Tennessee Senior Olympics began in 1981 with a mission to promote healthy lifestyles for seniors through fitness, sports, and an active involvement in life. Offering competition in 20 sports, the Olympics have grown to almost 2,000 participants for a week-long sports celebration.
