ACHS, Clinton have first round passes in district volleyball tournaments

Area high school volleyball teams have concluded the 2023 regular season, and district tournaments begin this week.

The District 3-AAA Tournament gets underway today (Oct. 4) at Wildcat Arena in Oak Ridge.

The opening match will feature the second-seed and host Lady Wildcats taking on No. 7 Campbell County. The Wildcats enter the tournament with a 10-14 overall record.

First serve is set for 5 p.m.

Other quarterfinal matches include No. 4 Knox Central playing Knoxville Halls, the No. 5 seed. Also, No. 3 Karns will play No. 6 Powell. Those matches will begin at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Clinton (24-10) is the No. 1 seed by virtue of its 12-0 district record. The Lady Dragons, who dropped just one set in regular-season league play, will have a first-round bye and will await the winner of the Halls-Central match.

The semifinals will begin at 8 p.m. today, and the championship match will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

The Region 4-AA Tournament opened Monday at Alcoa with top-seeded Anderson County having a first-round bye. The Lady Mavericks (25-11) began their postseason run Tuesday, and tournament play continued through the week.

The top two teams in each district will advance to their respective region tournaments on Tuesday.
