Anderson County High School’s volleyball team opened Region 2-AA Tournament play with a 3-1 victory over Pigeon Forge Monday night at Seymour High School.

The win followed a District 3-AA Tournament championship.

The Lady Mavericks had six days off after cruising past South-Doyle and Alcoa in three sets on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Alcoa.

The Lady Mavericks (28-10) swept the Lady Cherokees 25-11, 25-12, 25-8, and knocked off the Lady Tornadoes 25-14, 25-9, 25-23 to win another district tournament title.

ACHS Coach Jayme Smith said she was pleased with her team’s performance early last week.

“We didn’t drop a set; the girls played really well,” Smith said. “We won a team MVP award and we didn’t win any individual awards.”

The district tournament capped a league run that saw the Lady Mavericks win 12 games against district opponents, while not dropping a set in league play.

Anderson County, thus, was heavily represented on the league’s regular-season all-district team.

Jaylynn Bullock, Shelby Kelly, Alyssa Meier, Faith Graham, Emily Mustard, Eberlee Mayes, Kyra Damewood and Gracie Hayes received all-district honors, while Bethany Lowe and Emerie Bullock received honorable mentions.
