CHS runners continue to thrive

As the 2023 high school cross-country regular season enters its home stretch, Clinton High School Coach Tim Kumes continues to be pleased with the Dragons.

They are a young team, whose runners continue to improve on their best times.

“When you have a young team like we have, it’s always exciting to see them race, because every time they go out, it seems like they’re getting [personal records],” Kumes said. “And that’s exciting because it shows that all the work they’re doing is paying off.”

Clinton competed at the Cove Lake Invitational Thursday night and had four runners complete the 5,000-meter course is less than 21 minutes.

Cooper Bostrom was the Dragons’ top finisher as he crossed the finish line in 47th place, posting a time of 19 minutes, 57.06 seconds. Ryley Brewer was 65th as he clocked in at 20:38.81. Lucas Gates took 70th (20:43.83). Caleb Holt was 78th (20:52.59). Xander Porter finished 117th (23:16.97). Max Bostrom came in 128th (23:44.28) and Nathan Angel was 152nd (26:05).

The Lady Dragons had one entrant in Thursday night’s race. Summer Wilson finished 44th as she completed the course in 27:17.22.

Clinton is off this week, and will return to action Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Victor Ashe Park.
