Cross country ’Cats get ready for region

The Oak Ridge High School cross country teams had their final tune-up before the region championships.

Both the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats were in Knoxville early last week where they competed in the All Comers Meet at Victor Ashe Park on Tuesday, Oct. 17.

Coach Ed Wright said that he rested most of his top athletes in preparation for this week’s regional meet, which was contested on Wednesday at Victor Ashe Park. Results were not available at press time but Wright had some high hopes.

“You always want to get to state,” he said. “But it’s hard when you have teams like Farragut, Bearden, Hardin Valley and West. It’s just hard to get out of there.

“(Last week) was nothing to write home about. I only ran a few varsity runners.”

Lady Wildcats sophomore Dylan Job is looking to make it back to the state meet in Hendersonville.

“She’s slotted to finish fifth in the region and that will put her in the top-5 and get her there if we don’t qualify as a team.”
