After suffering a lopsided loss early last week, the Anderson County High School girls basketball team turns its attention to District 4-AAA play this week.

The Lady Mavericks, who opened league play against Scott on Tuesday night (results were not available at press time), will host crosstown rival Clinton Friday night.

Tipoff for Friday’s game between Anderson County (which began the week with a 4-4 record) and the Lady Dragons (who were 8-1 entering the week after suffering their first loss of the season on Tuesday, Dec. 4, against Hardin Valley Academy at home) is slated for 6 p.m. at ACHS.

Lady Mavs Coach Mitch Cupples said that’s he’s looking forward to the first of two regular-season meetings against the Lady Dragons later this week.

“We’re excited about the challenge,” he said. “(Clinton Coach) Alicia (Phillips) does a great job and she has a great young team,” Cupples said.

Anderson County will look to reverse its fortunes this week after a rough outing its last time out.

The Lady Mavericks dropped a 57-27 decision at home against Northview Academy on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

Jaylynn Bullock led the Lady Mavericks with 11 points and Emily Mustard added five points and 10 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Clinton, which opened district play on Tuesday against Union County (results were unavailable at press time), came up on the short end of a 64-52 decision against the Lady Hawks on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
