Lady Dragons blank Lady Patriots in round one of 4-AAA tournament
Bree McKamey helped the Clinton High School softball team open the postseason on a winning note Monday night.
McKamey, the Lady Dragons’ junior pitcher, tossed a three-hit shutout as Clinton, the No. 2 seed in the District 4-AAA tournament, defeated third-seeded Union County 7-0 in an opening-round game at Gibbs High School in Corryton.
McKamey allowed just three hits to the Lady Patriots and had 11 strikeouts in the circle.
She also had a big game at the plate as she went 2-for-4. She hit a home run and a double, scored a run and drove in three.
The Lady Dragons (17-13) opened a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. They added a run in the third and scored three more in the sixth. Clinton recorded 10 hits in the contest.
McKamey was the biggest star of the night, but she also got plenty of help from her supporting cast. Taylor Sherwood went 2-for-4. She hit a home run and had three RBIs. She also scored a run.
From the leadoff spot, senior shortstop Tomi Taylor was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Lynlee Adkins went 1-for-2 and scored two runs for Clinton, which advanced to the winner’s bracket and was scheduled to play Tuesday in Corryton.
