LaRue, Moody, Dark win events at Spartan Challenge

The Anderson County High School track teams turned in a strong performance recently at the Spartan Challenge, hosted by Webb School of Knoxville.

Waylon LaRue had a standout day in West Knoxville on Tuesday, April 22. He finished third in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 7 inches, won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.97 seconds, and took second in the 200-meter dash at 22.65 seconds.

Joseph Hall claimed first place in the long jump (21-7) and finished eighth in both the 100 (11.98) and 200 (23.88) dashes.

The Mavericks placed three runners in the top 10 of the 3,200-meter run. John Cutler finished third with a time of 10 minutes, 10.64 seconds, followed by Avian Laster in fourth (10:59.48) and Ethan Bolton in sixth (12:06.02).

In the 800, Ben Clotfelder placed sixth (2:07.26), while Landon Rainey was ninth (2:14.24).

Anderson County’s 4x400-meter relay team claimed first place with a time of 3:40.80, and the Mavericks also won the 4x800 (8:37.38).

Luke Dark dominated the shot put, winning the event with a throw of 60-9.

He also placed second in the discus (140-7). Caleb Dill finished eighth in the discus (100-8), and Ace Dunegan claimed second in the high jump (5-6).

In the 1,600, Vance Laster finished second (4:34.33), while Franklin Downs placed eighth (5:02.85).

On the girls’ side, Ava Moody captured first place in the 800 (2:21.33), with Marley Caldwell finishing ninth (2:47.61).

Mattie Lively earned fourth in the discus (68-10) and eighth in the shot put (38-4). Anna Gross finished eighth in the discus (22-1).

Lily Trent took ninth in the 400 (1:08.44), while the Lady Mavericks’ 4x800 relay team finished second (10:29.83). Morgan Haire rounded out the day with a ninth-place finish in the 1,600 (6:11.75).
