Clutch hit, shutout fuel Dragons’ final week surge

The Dragons (13-18 overall, 6-4 in District 4-AAA) opened the week by sweeping a doubleheader against Cumberland Gap at Jaycee Park.
Clinton claimed the opener in walk-off fashion, edging the Panthers 3-2 as JP Robbins delivered the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning. Robbins finished with two hits.
Alex Duggins added two hits and scored a run, while Jackson Barrett went 2-for-4. Will Brooks singled, drove in a run and scored once.
The nightcap offered less suspense as the Dragons rolled to a 10-0 victory in four innings.
Jackson Webb pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout, striking out nine and walking one. He also contributed offensively by stealing a base and scoring a run after being hit by a pitch.
Aden Golden, who had a hit and an RBI in the opener, swung a hot bat in Game 2, going 2-for-2 with a home run, a triple, two stolen bases, and five RBIs.
Jake Rittenberry went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Brooks doubled and scored.
The Dragons closed out the regular season Thursday with a 14-4 road loss to Oak Ridge.
In that game, Webb doubled and drove in a run, while Brooks singled and scored.
Clinton faced Cumberland Gap again in the first round of the District 4-AAA Tournament at Anderson County on Tuesday.
