Hawks eye sectional berth in regular-season finale

Clinton Middle School’s baseball team will take the field for the final time in the 2025 regular season Friday night — and the stakes couldn’t be higher.

The Hawks (5-4) will square off against the Horace Maynard Red Devils with a berth in the sectional tournament on the line.

First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Jaycee Park.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early, as Clinton will honor its eighth-grade players with a ceremony beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The two teams split their previous meetings this season. Clinton claimed a 5-3 victory over Horace Maynard last Friday after the Red Devils won the first matchup.

“It will definitely be a tough test for us,” CMS Coach Jake Lowe said. “They beat us early in the season, but we beat them last week and I think we can do it again.”

Elijah Barker and Colton Wright combined for a strong outing on the mound in the Hawks’ recent win.

Barker went 3-1/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He walked four and struck out three. Wright pitched 1-2/3 innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk while striking out three.

At the plate, Elliott Benvenuto went 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run scored. Jarred Pacinos finished 1-for-2 with a run, and Isaac Keeton also drew a walk and scored a run.
