Norris summer concerts begin June 6, will run through July 4

This summer’s Norris “Concerts on the Commons” series begins Friday, June 6, with a performance by Liquid Velvet on the outdoor stage next to the Lions Club Pavilion downtown.

Liquid Velvet is described as a ’70s, ’80s, ’90s acoustic classic rock/country group.

Four concerts are scheduled for this year.

The rest include:

• June 13: AYCA, featuring rock, pop, dance, jazz and R&B.

• June 20: My New Favorites, a four-member acoustic group playing original songs, with honky-tonk and Appalachian roots.

• July 4: 110 in the Shade, a six-member group performing funk, soul, Motown, and R&B numbers.

All of the concerts begin at 7 p.m., and are scheduled to end by 9 p.m.

The concerts are being hosted by the Norris Recreation Commission.

There is no admission charge, but attendees are requested to bring their own chairs or blankets to sit on in the grassy area in front of the stage, on the grounds of Norris Middle School.

The July 4 concert will be followed by a 20-minute fireworks display.

The late Jack Mitchell, who was a longtime Norris real-estate agent and publisher of the Norris Bulletin, created the concert series 16 years ago.

Powell Clinch Utility District has been the sponsor of the series since its inception, helping to pay the performers for their appearances.
