Oak Ridge standouts sign

Three Oak Ridge High School student-athletes recently finalized their college plans by signing national letters of intent.

Carleigh Brown (dance), Andrew Chou (swimming) and Richie Ferreira (baseball) will continue their academic pursuits and athletic careers at the collegiate level.

Brown, a seven-time national champion and two-time state champion, will join the dance team at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she plans to study communications.

Chou, an All-America swimmer and state champion in the 100-yard butterfly, will attend Dartmouth University and major in engineering. He holds school records in the 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley.

Ferreira, an All-District 3-4A baseball standout, has signed with Montreat College, where he will major in cybersecurity.

He helped lead the Wildcats to a second- consecutive Class 4A state tournament berth and played a key role in Oak Ridge’s run to district and region championships, as well as a state sectional series victory last week.
