Coal Creek 18U blanks Falcons in doubleheader

The Coal Creek 18U baseball team notched its first two victories of the 2025 summer season with a doubleheader sweep of the Christenberry Falcons early last week at Christenberry Ballpark in North Knoxville.

Coal Creek (2-3), made up of players from Anderson County High School, won the opener 7-0 before taking the nightcap 6-1 on Monday, June 2.

In Game 1, right-hander Clay Fletcher turned in a gem, tossing a five-inning no-hitter. He walked three, struck out five, and went the distance for the complete-game shutout.

Fletcher also contributed at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases.

Coal Creek jumped out early, scoring three runs in the top of the first, then adding one in the second and three more in the third.

Jeremiah Owens went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI.

Nolan Benson added two hits, an RBI and two stolen bases. Daniel Unthank had a hit and a stolen base, and scored a run.

Max Giles reached after being hit by a pitch, stole two bases, scored a run and drove in another.

In the second game, Christenberry took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but Coal Creek rallied with five runs in the fourth inning and added one in the fifth.

Wesley Howard, Tanner Hollifield and Jack Wilson each had two hits. Hollifield doubled, stole a base and scored a run. Howard scored once and drove in a run. Wilson added a run scored and a stolen base.
