Armory renovations begins at Jaycee Park
Renovations to make the old armory building in Jaycee Park into a daycare for city employees and others began today (July 23).
The contract is for 270 days of work, Taylor Cullison, special events coordinator with the city of Clinton, told The Courier News.
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley will run the program, which the city plans to start in January at the 214 Nave St. building.
The Clinton City Council committed $1.9 million toward the daycare at its April 28 meeting, while a federal Community Development Block Grant will contribute $426,200.
City Manager Roger Houck said the city plans for the daycare to serve children of Clinton City, Clinton City Schools and some Eagle Bend Industrial Park employees.
He said the daycare program will be a more-affordable option for these families.
Contracted work will include a new roof, new windows, and Americans with Disabilities Act accessible restrooms and doors.
