New coach, high hopes for 2025 Anderson County golf teams

As the Anderson County High School golf teams prepare for the 2025 season, they’ll do so under the direction of a new coach.

But Dallas Cole, the Mavericks’ new leader, is no stranger to the county’s scholastic golf scene. He spent the last three years as head coach at Norris Middle School.

“I’ve been blessed to be here,” Cole said. “And I’ve loved every minute of it.”

While the coach may be new to the high school ranks, both the boys and girls teams feature experienced and battle-tested players.

The Mavericks will open their 2025 campaign at the 5 Star Preps Masters on July 30-31 at Three Ridges Golf Club in Knoxville. The prestigious two-day event features top programs and golfers from across East Tennessee.

The Lady Mavericks will begin their season on Aug. 4 at Centennial Golf Course in Oak Ridge, where they’ll face Oak Ridge and Carter. The boys team will also compete in that event.

The Mavericks’ boys team finished fourth at last season’s region championship.

It returns four seniors: Peyton Warwick, Kaden Chadwell, Preston Vance and Gavin Drake. They’ll be joined by juniors Max Sickau, Luke Baldwin and Hoyt Chadwell.

Key newcomers include sophomore Maddox Tackett and freshmen Britton Tackett, Max Stanfill and Crosby Edrington.

“We have a good team, and this could be our year,” Cole said. “We’re going to practice like it’s our year.

“The guys from last year have a chip on their shoulder because they came up short.”

Although new to the high school game, the incoming freshmen have already found success. Stanfill was a district champion at Jacksboro Middle, while Britton Tackett was a state qualifier at Oliver Springs Middle.

The Lady Mavericks return three golfers: seniors Sydney May and Coy Tomlinson, and sophomore Molly Jackson — all of whom posted strong scores at the 2024 region tournament.

They’ll be joined by freshman Lola Ellis, who won a district title at Norris under Cole’s guidance.

“Our expectations are high, and I think the girls also have a little bit of a chip on their shoulder, too, because they came up short,” Cole said. “Our players — both the boys and the girls — are looking to make their mark.”

Cole also noted that the young players’ prior postseason experience at the middle school level will be a key asset this fall.
