Bear Stephenson again leads Senior Day at Anderson County Fair
‘The Six Best Days of Summer’
Enjoying live country music, biscuits, ice cream and competitions ranging from hog calling to hats, a standing-room-only packed tent of seniors showed up for the Anderon County Fair’s senior day last Wednesday, July 16.
Master of ceremonies once again was Bear Stephenson.
“The hog-calling contest cracks me up sometimes,” said Stephenson when asked about his favorite event. “The music, the games, the ice cream, just everything about Senior Citizens’ Day is special.”
He said it brought seniors, over the age of 55, together like no other time of the year. “I’m just glad that I can be a part of helping somebody enjoy their day.”
First place for best-decorated hat was Kathy Breeden, with “KFC”; second was Sheila Johnson, with “Mardi Gras”; and third was Carolyn Martin, with “Sunflowers.”
First place for jig dancing was Shirley Herrell, second was Peggy Graham and third was Carolyn Martin.
For most-knobby knees, Mack Orick won first for men and Shirley Herrell for women.
For hog calling, Sheila Johnson won first, Mary Stephenson second and Judy Gaines third.
