Clinton City Schools recieves Level 5 score

Kelly Johnson Director of Clinton City Schools
Kelly Johnson, director of Clinton City Schools said Assessment System data determines the five possible levels.
The composite score combines student growth in English language arts, math, science and social studies at all schools in the district.
A year’s growth under the system means the amount of progress in these subjects the state expects students to make in an academic year.
Level 3 indicates that students made a year’s growth academically between testing years.
Level 4 is achieved by growing one standard deviation above a year’s growth.
This means students achieved more growth than 84.1% of their peers in a typical year.
Level 5 is two standard deviations above a year’s growth.
It means there’s evidence that students made considerably more progress than the average peer group across the state.
Tennessee determines these scores by comparing each student’s growth with that of similar students across the state.
“We are very proud that Clinton City Schools has maintained a Level 5 composite for 2025,” Johnson said.
“Both growth and achievement are essential components to a successful educational experience. It is important that we meet the students at their individual level and grow them as much as possible during the course of the year through rigor and differentiated instruction. Academic gaps are closed and achievement scores increase when significant growth is made.”
Oak Ridge Schools also achieved Level 5.
“I’m extremely proud of being named a Level 5 district because it represents growth, which to Oak Ridge Schools means meeting students where they are and helping them grow to reach their full potential,” said Bruce Borchers, superintendent of Oak Ridge Schools.
“One of the core values of our district is equity, giving each and every student the opportunity to succeed. Most students do not come to us scoring off the charts on their first day of school, but our principals and educators have made it their mission to support their growth throughout their academic career in Oak Ridge Schools. This designation is a direct result of their hard work and dedication.”
