According to the permit, the cost of the project will be $450,000, and the contractor will be JCR Construction.
In March, the church began to prepare the site for construction of the fellowship hall, and also expansion of its parking lot. The fellowship hall will be a one-story building, with a steel frame.
For that earlier work, a grading permit was issued to the church by the city on March 5, and the site plan for the fellowship hall was approved by the city’s Planning Commission in mid-March, according to the city and the church.
Excavation work began about March 12. The new parking area was raised and smoothed, then a layer of gravel added, the church said in a note in its weekly bulletin said.
Footers in preparation for the fellowship hall building were poured shortly afterward.
The parking lot will be paved when construction of the building is complete so as not to damage the new asphalt with construction traffic. It remains gravel for now.
Associate Minister Clint Patterson said in March that the church had purchased the vacant lot between the main church building and Deal’s Distributing Co. to accommodate the fellowship hall and parking-lot expansion.
Concrete pavement was broken up and removed first, then crews began bringing in truckloads of fill dirt to build up the site.
JCR Construction, headed by Justin Robbins, is the contractor for the entire project, according to an earlier posting in the church bulletin. He built the Lake City Church of Christ building, said church treasurer Joey Smith.
“We ran into some extra requirements, had to get an architect do some drawings for us,” Smith said. “It’s designed down to the switches. They dug the trenches for the footers last week. Each step gets us closer.”
“We’re still not sure when we will be finished, but definitely want to get it done before winter sets up.”
Patterson said the church also recently completed some work in the main church building to add an audio-visual room at the rear of the sanctuary.
“The new Audio/Visual Room is complete and working well,” a March 16 bulletin posting said. “This move has created more space for seating, and the six additional pews will be reupholstered soon to match our other pews.”
