Former principal faces DUI charge

Daniel Jenkins
Former Clinton High School Principal Daniel Jenkins faces multiple indictments regarding a head-on collision.

The Clinton Police Department announced the indictments on Friday, Sept. 12, in a release published to Facebook.

It reported the crash occurred in the 100 block of Clinch Avenue on May 31, when Jenkins, traveling northbound, reportedly crossed the center line and struck a southbound vehicle head-on.

The department’s news release stated the investigation revealed Jenkins was intoxicated and distracted by a cell phone, and had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

After investigating, the police presented the case to the Anderson County Grand Jury, which issued indictments against Jenkins for diving under the influence, reckless endangerment, prohibited use of wireless telecommunications device, and violation of the open-container law.

On Sept. 11, Jenkins reportedly surrendered himself to the Anderson County Detention Facility, where he was formally booked on the charges.

He reportedly left the same day. His bond was at $2,500 for each charge, the Sheriff’s Office website stated.

The case remains pending in the criminal court system, and the Clinton Police Department will not release more information at this time.
