Work has begun on the project.
Clinton City Manager Roger Houck said the project will cost $299,000.
He said on Thursday, Sept. 14, that it would take 150 days to get the equipment and install it. The area includes the Anderson County Senior Center, The Lantern at Morning Pointe Senior Living facility, a gas station and residential areas.
The light comes after much discussion from city officials.
“It’s getting worse and worse from a traffic standpoint,” Mayor Scott Burton told the City Council last year, citing accidents occurring in the area.
Houck said the Tennessee Department of Transportation had studied the area several times and said a light wasn’t warranted.
Since then, he said, TDOT has changed its policy on when to add traffic lights on state roads.
“They’ll let us install it at our own expense,” he said.
