Hominy Mamas highlight Norris picnic
More than 200 people turned out for the eighth-annual Norris Summer Picnic on the Commons last Friday evening to eat with family and friends, and hear music from a favorite local group called The Hominy Mamas.
The event took place in front of Norris Middle School and in the Lions Club Pavilion, with music emanating from the small stage next to the pavilion.
Residents and friends of Norris, including lots of children, seemed to be enjoying the event, most of them sitting in lawn chairs or on blankets spread on the grass in front of the stage.
Sponsored and coordinated by the Norris Recreation Commission, the event also included a bounce house for the kids, along with face painting, lawn games and some water fun provided by the Norris Fire Department.
For those who didn’t bring their own picnics, there were food and beverage trucks on hand from Good Hombres Tacos, Tortas & More and Southern Sips.
This is one of several events presented each year by the Norris Recreation Commission, which is part of the Norris city government.
