Lady Mavs split week on volleyball court

Anderson County High School had mixed results last week on the volleyball court.

The Lady Mavericks closed out the week with a five-set loss to Oak Ridge.

Anderson County won the first two sets before the Lady Wildcats rallied for a 19-25, 17-25, 27-25, 25-10, 15-11 victory Thursday night.

Makenzie Wilkerson paced the Lady Mavericks with 10 kills and two blocks. She also notched two service points. Lilly McCormick added six kills and five blocks, while Emmee Blackburn finished with 14 points, nine digs and an ace.

Earlier in the week, Anderson County rolled past Gibbs 25-12, 25-22, 25-13 on Tuesday, Sept. 9, in Corryton.

Both the Lady Mavericks and Lady Eagles are new to District 3-AAA. Each reached the Class AA state tournament last season in Murfreesboro.

“They graduated seven players and I think they only had two players on the floor with varsity experience,” ACHS Coach Jayme Smith said. “We also have some young players, but they do have experience.”

Bethany Lowe had a standout performance against Gibbs, scoring 18 points, including five aces. She also had nine digs and seven kills. Dakotah Berlin chipped in 10 points, two aces and two digs.

ACHS hosted Hardin Valley Academy on Monday and played Clinton on Tuesday.
