“It was kind of a weird week,” Underwood said after the Lady Wildcats split a pair of matches in the days following their Sept. 4 upset of Bearden.
Oak Ridge was originally scheduled to face Farragut on Sept. 9, but that match was canceled after the Lady Admirals had to reschedule a league contest against Knoxville West.
Instead, Underwood booked Rhea County, and the Lady Wildcats fell 2-1.
“It was our first game since we beat Bearden, so I don’t think we were really in it mentally,” Underwood said. “But it wasn’t like we were terrible. Their coach told me that was their goalie’s best game in four years. We had like 30 shots, and it seemed like every one landed right in the keeper’s hands.”
Hannah Morris scored Oak Ridge’s lone goal.
The Lady Wildcats bounced back two days later, knocking off District 1-AAA powerhouse Science Hill, 3-1.
“That was a big win for us because that’s a team we could see at the sectionals,” Underwood said.
Hayven Laurendine scored twice, while Noel Norstedt added a goal for Oak Ridge.
