Oak Ridge posts pair of runner-up finishes in double-header

Oak Ridge High School’s boys golf team had a busy week with three matches on the schedule.

On Thursday, the Wildcats placed second in a four-way meet against Maryville, Farragut and Heritage at Green Meadow Country Club.

The host Rebels won the event with a team score of 152, followed by the Wildcats (166), Admirals (171) and Mountaineers.

Hunter Hinton led Oak Ridge with a 37, carding birdies on both par-5 holes — No. 4 and No. 5. Kaleb Jackson shot a 39, Billy Bennett finished with a 43, Braxton Pemberton had a 47 and Abel Hensley rounded out the lineup with a 48.

Later that same day, Oak Ridge faced First Baptist Academy and Grace Christian Academy.

The Eagles, playing their home course, took the top spot with a 152. Grace was second at 163, followed by the Wildcats (165).

“A good day for us is in the 160s as a team,” Oak Ridge Coach Scott Hinton said. “So we played okay.”

Hinton again led the Wildcats with a 38. Jackson carded a 41, Bennett had a 42, Pemberton shot 44 and Hensley posted a 45.
