Anderson County High School’s girls soccer team split a pair of matches last week but secured the right to host in the upcoming District 4-AA tournament.

The Lady Mavericks clinched a home match with a 1-0 victory over Gibbs on Thursday night. Roxana Aguilar scored the lone goal.

“We won the game 1-0, but I thought it should’ve been 3-0,” Anderson County coach Chris Curtin said. “We controlled the game but just couldn’t score. We just couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net.”

Earlier in the week, Anderson County dropped a 3-0 decision to Oak Ridge at home.

“Oak Ridge has a really good team,” Curtin said. “Hayven Laurendine always plays a big role for them against us. I’m glad she’s a senior.”

Laurendine netted two goals in the match, while Joli Mokszycki added the other tally for the Lady Wildcats.

On Monday, Anderson County hosted Morristown East. Results were not available at press time, but the Lady Mavericks celebrated Senior Night, honoring Bralee Hall, Jocelyn Amos, Millie Swisher, Olivia Madron, Emily Mosier and Megan Shock.

“They’re a great group,” Curtin said. “They’re close-knit, and that shows on the field. They combine well together. It’s been a pleasure to coach them.”
