Moody three-peats at TSSAA sectional

Anderson County’s Ava Moody continued her sectional reign on Thursday by finishing in the top spot at Woodland Park in Chattanooga with a time of 17:37.66.
For the third-consecutive year, Anderson County High School’s Ava Moody captured the Section 2-A/AA girls cross country championship.

The senior standout now has her sights set on defending her state title, although this time, it will be on new terrain.

Moody won the 2024 championship in Hendersonville, but this year’s TSSAA state championships will be held Thursday at Shelby Farms in Memphis.

Moody clocked a blistering 17 minutes, 37.66 seconds on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Woodland Park Baptist Church in Chattanooga to win the sectional crown.

Her performance helped the Lady Mavericks secure a trip to the state meet, finishing fourth overall as a team.

Jordan Walker placed 11th (19:57.61), Rebekah Berg took 17th (20:50.52), Sydney Day was 21st (21:32.10), and Emma Owens was in 30th place (23:51.15).

“I feel very good heading into the state,” ACHS Assistant Coach Harrison Calhoun said. “Right now, Ava can’t be stopped. She’s well-rounded and she’s shown really great leadership.”

The Anderson County boys team also qualified for Memphis after a third-place finish in the sectional standings.

John Cutler led the Mavericks with a fourth-place finish (16:17.96), followed by Cameron Hardy in eighth (16:42.59). Avian Laster finished 15th (17:16.08), Franklin Downs came in 22nd (17:40.28), and Toby Day placed 32nd (18:45.28).
