Senior Center to add sound system and sewing machines

The Anderson County Senior Center is getting sound clouds to reduce reverberation, a new sound system and new sewing machines.

These additions are coming due to a $48,000 grant from the Tennessee Department of Aging and Disability. The Anderson County Commission approved this grant at its Oct. 20 meeting.

“I love seeing the seniors having a good time together, staying active and engaged,” Anderson County Mayor Terry Frank told The Courier-News. “The items being purchased with the grant funds will create a warmer environment where they can better hear programming and each other. And the seniors we told about the new machines were very excited!”

Anderson County Commissioner Anthony Allen made the motion, and Michael Foster seconded.

Frank told The Courier News the county cannot make any purchases with the grant until Nov. 1 but will start as soon as possible.

She said the Senior Center’s main assembly room, due to its materials, has problem with sound reverberating or echoing. The sound panels the county plans to purchase will reduce this problem. The new sound system, separate from those panels will be for both indoor and outdoor presentations and music.

The county is purchasing the 12 new sewing machines to replace some of the older existing ones and allow for a greater number of sewing and quilting participants.
