Norris Dam State Park will present its annual old-time “Christmas in the Park” celebration from 4-8:30 p.m. this Saturday (Dec. 20).

This event will take place at the Lenoir Museum, Gristmill, and Crosby Threshing Barn, which are along Norris Freeway (U.S. 441) between Andersonville Highway and Norris Dam.

Christmas in the Park is free, and will include children’s crafts, warm drinks, a pie auction, live folk music, and Santa Claus in the Lenoir Museum.

The park’s Facebook page had this to say about the event:

“Come to Norris Dam for a vintage evening celebrating the Christmas season! This event will feature warm drinks, live folk music, family-friendly crafts, silent auctions, [and] a bonfire, and Santa is planning on making a visit.”

Parking will be at the Lenoir Museum, located at 2121 Norris Freeway, with limited handicap-accessible parking at the Rice Gristmill.

The silent auction for donated pies will be held from 4-7 p.m. at the Crosby Threshing Barn.

“Support Norris Dam State Park and take home a tasty treat; it’s a win-win!” the Facebook post said. “You do not have to be present to win. Winners will be announced or called at 7 p.m.’

Children can meet at the bonfire pit in front of the Threshing Barn at 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30 p.m. for “Read with a Ranger,” where one of the park rangers will read aloud a Christmas story.

The Threshing Barn will also house “make your own ornament” stations.

Live music will be performed in the Lenoir Museum, along with demonstrations of historic crafts.

Although the events are free to attend, park officials ask that people consider donations to the park.

“All of your donations stay in Norris Dam State Park to help with interpretive programs and events, park resource management, and other projects,” the Facebook post noted.
