Mavericks honor seniors, dominate home duals last week
Anderson County High School’s wrestling team honored its seniors during a pair of home dual meets last week against McMinn Central and Bearden.
The Mavericks recognized five senior wrestlers and one senior manager before scoring a pair of convincing victories on their home mat.
ACHS Head Coach Matt Slone said this year’s group of veterans has the potential to be one of the program’s best.
“Our senior class last year was probably our most-successful,” Slone said. “But this class could be even better.
“All these guys are ranked in the top five in the state, and we’ve never had five guys ranked at the same time.
“This is a great group,” he said. “They’ve worked hard in the offseason, they do things the right way, and they’re a big reason why we’re where we are right now.”
The senior wrestlers include Aiden Reed (113 pounds), who recently notched his 100th career victory.
Others honored for their standout careers were Hayden Harrell (144), Max Wolfley (150), Deameion Leavell (165) and Evan Prewitt (175). Team manager Dakotah Berlin was also recognized.
The Mavericks defeated Bearden 54-12. Individual bout results from that match were not available at press time.
In the 42-24 win over McMinn, Prewitt won by forfeit at 190 pounds, and Henry Linkes picked up a technical fall with an 18-3 victory over Skylar Woods.
Reed pinned James Dunlap in just 1 minute, 15 seconds. Zed Hulet (138) needed only 1:10 to pin Collin Acome.
Harrell got a fall against Kolton Tipton. Edmond Presson (165) pinned Zymari Clary in 2:15.
Leavell, a former state champion at Clinton as a sophomore, pinned Aaron Brock in just 21 seconds in the 175-pound bout.
