The event had been set for the previous Saturday, but after the heavy snowfall that began Friday afternoon and continued that Saturday, owner Beth Hutchinson decided to postpone for a week.
Hutchinson and her staff were on hand to greet customers and introduce them to the creative nature of her new business, which is in the Norris Town Center next to the post office.
Besides coffee, tea and pastries/baked goods made by Rachel Barnes, The Corner Spot offers an array of creative soft drinks, known as “dirty sodas.”
They include items such as the S’More drink, made with Dr Pepper, chocolate, toasted marshmallow and cream, and the Dirty Spot Butterbeer, consisting of root beer, toasted marshmallow, shortbread, vanilla and cream.
“Cozy Cups” are listed on the menu as milk drinks, and include such offerings as Strawberries & Cream, Chocolate Covered Strawberry, and Dubai Chocolate (with Chocolate Pistachio).
“Soda Pop Fizzies” also are featured, including the Norris Shirley Temple, made with Sprite, strawberry and peach; and The Original, with Dr Pepper, strawberry and vanilla.
Regular hours for The Corner Spot are Monday-Friday from 7 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; and Sunday, noon-4 p.m.
The Corner Spot is in the former location of the Sweet Café, in the same building as the former Archer’s food market.
Archer’s, which was on the other side of the building at 15 W. Norris Road, remains closed.
Hutchison, who lives in Clinton, created The Corner Spot in November, and moved her Vintage Floral Designs business into the back room of the space.
She has opened the front room as a public space, offering grad-and-go food along with the specialty drinks.
Besides the drinks and food, the front area holds the artisan market, and also is available for use as a workshop for artists.
Some flowers will be available for sale there, as well.
Hutchinson also said she is taking orders for Valentine’s Day flowers, according to the Facebook page.
