School Board to vote on pre-K playground grant
The Anderson County Board of Education will vote on several pre-kindergarten related grants and budget items at its next meeting, including one for a new playground in Claxton.
The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on March 12 at 101 South Main St.
A full agenda is on the school website at acs.ac.
If approved, Anderson County Schools will apply for a $118,500 federal Head Start supplemental grant for the playground equipment and turf surfacing.
There are two federally funded Head Start pre-kindergarten classrooms on the Claxton Elementary School campus.
The elementary school, along with the two pre-K classrooms will move to the future school’s site at 105 Fellowship Lane, which is currently under construction.
The grant would give the new Head Start classrooms at the new site a playground.
Under the proposal, Anderson County Schools would contribute $29,625 from its own budget to pay for site prep, equipment and fencing.
The grant resolution also predicts the new Claxton Elementary School will be finished by December.
