Lady Mavs roll past South-Doyle
A fast start helped the Anderson County High School flag football team go undefeated through the first two games of the 2026 season.
The Lady Mavericks scored 26 points in the first quarter of a 38-19 home victory over South-Doyle Friday night.
Anderson County (2-0) also featured a stingy defense as the Lady Mavericks’ first unit kept the Lady Cherokees off the scoreboard in the first half.
ACHS led 38-0 at halftime before clearing the bench early in the third quarter.
Quarterback Keianna Gillum threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more scores in the win over the Lady Cherokees.
She also added a pair of conversions. Gillum finished 11-for-13 passing for 189 yards.
“She had a great game,” Lady Mavericks Coach Jonathan Cotton said. “Any time your starting quarterback has a hand in five touchdowns, that’s really good.”
Gillum also spread the wealth among her receiving corps before exiting the contest.
“She just played until early in the third quarter,” Cotton said.
“We took her out because the outcome of the game was no longer in doubt.”
Chloe Freeman had three receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown.
Jocelyn Amos hauled in a 64-yard touchdown pass.
Anaya Witkowski had two catches, including a touchdown, while amassing 25 receiving yards, and Carly Whitson also had a TD reception.
The Lady Mavericks were set to face Rhea County Tuesday in Evensville, but results were not available at press time.
The Lady Mavs will travel to Clinton Thursday.
Cotton knows the Lady Dragons are 0-1 after dropping their season opener last week, but he expects a different team this time around as several basketball players are expected to join the squad after a 30-3 season that ended in the Region 2-AAA quarterfinals.
Addi Gamble will likely make her flag football debut.
“Gamble is a great athlete and a game changer. You can see that on the basketball court,” Cotton said.
“I don’t know how they’re going to use her, but she’ll be big for them.”
