As part of the Honors Performance Series, Rawdon joined band students from across the country in February to perform in various ensembles and work under renowned conductors on the iconic stage. She was the first student in the CHS band to be selected as a finalist for the audition-based program.
The selection process included a recorded audition, a student biography and a teacher recommendation. While about 500 students are typically chosen for the program, only 340 students were selected as finalists this year out of more than 10,000 who were nominated to audition.
CHS Band Director Matthew Bimstein said the achievement is a testament to Rawdon’s passion and commitment to music.
“We are incredibly proud of her hard work, dedication and accomplishments,” he said.
For Rawdon, the experience proves that hard work can lead to success.
“I am extremely grateful for Mr. Bimstein for pushing me to always do my best and my family for always supporting me,” she said. “I hope this opportunity will help lead others to success as well.”
After the event, Rawdon said she plans to audition for the Honors Performance Series again next year.
“The privilege of getting to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City with musicians from all around the world who are highly skilled and talented was such a life-changing experience for me,” she said.
