Union County sweep highlights 6-game stretch
Anderson County High School’s baseball team played six games last week and won three of them.
The week began on a high note but ended with a pair of tough losses to Greenback and Heritage on Saturday.
Against Greenback, the Mavericks dropped a 10-5 decision despite getting two hits each from Daniel Unthank and Landry Sharp.
Unthank went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Sharp also scored a run. Nolan Benson singled and drove in a run. Levi Skeen doubled and had two RBIs. Blake Lowe singled and scored.
The Mavericks then fell to Heritage 9-3 on Saturday.
Unthank singled and scored twice, while Jeremiah Owens had two hits and an RBI.
On Thursday, Webb School of Bell Buckle defeated the Mavericks 8-2.
Anderson County, however, bounced back to edge Knoxville Hardin Valley Academy 5-4.
Benson had three hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Lowe hit a solo home run. Titus Fedders went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, while Clay Fletcher singled and scored.
The Mavericks opened the week by sweeping a District 4-AAA series against Union County.
On Tuesday, Anderson County edged the Patriots 3-2 in nine innings. The Mavericks won when Wil Ridenour drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly.
Unthank went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and two runs scored. Benson had two hits and an RBI, while Ridenour finished with two RBIs.
On Monday, March 30, Anderson County routed the Patriots 10-3 in Maynardville.
Reese Young hit a home run in the contest, while Owens doubled and scored twice. Fedders had a hit, two RBIs and two runs scored. Lowe also had two hits, a run scored and an RBI.
Anderson County defeated Clinton 8-0 on Monday. The teams were scheduled to complete their league series Tuesday, but results were unavailable at press time.
