Legends meet brings big day for Wildcats

For the Lady Wildcats, Amaijah Bishop won the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 23.64 seconds.
Brooke Roessner placed third in the 3,200-meter run, crossing the finish line in 13:58.58.
Alani Mitchell finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 2.75 inches.
Madeline Frazier was second in the discus with a throw of 74 feet, 10 inches. She also placed seventh in the pole vault with a mark of 6 feet.
For the Wildcats, sprinter Brennen Newberry won the 200-meter dash in 22.25 seconds and took third in the 100-meter dash in 11.20.
Tyree Porter finished fourth in the 200-meter run in 22.86.
In the 400-meter dash, James Phillips was fourth in 51.20, while Rhett Hovater placed ninth in 52.99.
Mason Greenhalgh won the 800-meter run in 1:56.80 and finished fifth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:40.63.
Hovater also took fifth in the 1,600-meter run in 4:41.75.
The meet also featured a special honor for former Oak Ridge cross country and track and field Coach Jim McNamee, known as “Coach Mac.”
McNamee coached cross country from 1977-2003 and track and field from 1978-95, guiding the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats through one of the program’s most successful eras.
He led the Lady Wildcats to state cross country championships in 1982, 1996 and 1999, and state track and field titles in 1980, 1988, 1989 and 1992.
He also guided the Wildcats to state cross country championships in 1980, 1983, 1984, 1985 and 1991. Under McNamee’s direction, the boys won the state track and field title in 1994.
