Clinton High School’s tennis teams split a match with Fulton last week.

The Lady Dragons cruised past the Lady Falcons 9-0, surrendering just two games in singles play and two more in the three completed doubles matches.

“Our girls are playing well and they have a lot of experience,” Clinton Coach Hannah Cunningham said.

At No. 1 singles, senior Josie Moody posted an 8-0 victory. At No. 2, Molly Buchanan won 8-1. In the No. 3 singles slot, Kyleigh Gallaher earned an 8-0 win, while Izzy Woods claimed an 8-1 victory at No. 4. At No. 5 singles, Leah Hernandez picked up an 8-0 win for the Lady Dragons.

Clinton also swept doubles play in impressive fashion.

At No. 1 doubles, the Lady Dragons’ duo of Moody and Gallaher won 8-0. In the No. 2 spot, Buchanan and Woods posted an 8-2 victory, while Hernandez and Farmer completed the shutout with an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.

The Falcons, meanwhile, edged the Dragons, 5-4, as the young Clinton boys squad won two singles matches and took two of three doubles contests.

At No. 2 singles, Keenan Hoskins won 8-3, while Ty Wright posted an 8-1 victory at No. 6.

The Dragons claimed wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. At No. 1, Clinton’s tandem of Josiah Shelton, the team’s lone senior, and Hoskins earned an 8-6 victory. At No. 3 doubles, the duo of Jesus Tovar and Wright notched an 8-5 win.

“Our boys are young and they’re struggling,” Cunningham said. “We’ve only got one senior. Josiah has been with us a long time.”
