Lady Mavericks roll past Kingston 18-6

After a slow start, the Anderson County High School softball team left the diamond with a win on Tuesday, April 14.

The Lady Mavericks routed Kingston 18-6 on the road in five innings, overcoming an early 6-3 deficit. Anderson County scored three runs in the top of the first inning before the Lady Yellow Jackets answered in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 3.

Kingston later took a 6-3 lead in the second inning before the Lady Mavericks pulled away with 15 unanswered runs, including eight in the top of the third.

“We didn’t start well against Kingston,” Anderson County Coach Lindsey Verner said. “We had some errors that we shouldn’t have had.

“But we played better and we got the win.”

Anderson County pounded out 18 hits against Kingston.

Kara Waddell went 3-for-5 with two triples, three RBIs and a run scored. Bella Brummett was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. Leadoff hitter Harlee Taylor went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Reece Brock singled and scored three runs. Ella Varner had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Cindle Justice had a hit, a run scored and three RBIs. Alli McKamey had three hits and drove in three runs.

Marlea Finstad had two hits and scored two runs, while Ashton Thurman had two hits, including a double. She drove in four runs and scored three times.
