Plenty of adoptions took place Saturday during the annual Paws for a Cause Pet Expo at the Carden Farm Dog Park in Clinton.

“We seemed to have a lot more dogs there this year,” Katrina Hall of the Anderson County Animal Rescue Foundation said Monday. “Our pet costume contest had the most entries ever.

“We had at least 14 adoptions, as well as three applications for fosters or adoptions,” she said. “That’s pretty incredible. I think all of the vendors had a good day, too.

“The Parrot Brothers were there with live music, which was a first for us,” Hall said. “We plan to try to continue to have live music at the event.”

Besides more than 60 vendors, area pet rescues were on hand with animals waiting for new homes.

The event ran from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carden Farm Dog Park, 410 Riverview Drive in South Clinton.

More than 1,000 people were expected to attend the event, but Hall did not have an estimate of attendance or how much money was raised by the event, as of Monday afternoon.

Those participating with pets for adoption included the Anderson County Animal Shelter, Norris Animal Shelter, Labrador Retriever Rescue of East Tennessee, McMinn Regional Humane Society, Knox Vintage Pet Project and more.

Also available were low-cost vaccinations and microchips for the canine visitors.

Every dollar raised by the event goes directly to helping animals in the Anderson County community.

Besides the city of Clinton, event coordinators included the Anderson County Animal Rescue Foundation and the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley.
