Area middle school golfers drive into regionals

Three area middle school golf programs had teams competing in the district championships at The Greens at Deerfield early last week.

The Norris Middle School girls repeated as district champions. The Lady Senators finished with a combined team score of 86 and had the top two finishers on the par-35 front nine.

Evie Chambers captured low medalist honors as she finished with a 3-over-par 38. Norris’ Liza Sickau was the second-best individual finisher, carding a 48. The top two finishers comprise the team score. Addison Price shot 51, and Kimbree Rains finished with a 52.

“We repeated as district champions,” Norris Coach Dallas Cole said. “These girls have all worked hard, and we were excited to do it again.”

All of the Lady Senators are seventh graders.

The St. Mary’s Middle School boys also won the district title with players from St. Mary’s, Robertsville and Jefferson middle schools.

Eighth-grader Britton Luttrell, of Jefferson, was low medalist, shooting a 2-under-par 33. Robertsville eighth-grader Titus Petrucci shot a 40 and finished fourth in the individual standings. Trevor Johnson had a 44, as did Linden Elementary School fourth-grader Charlie Hay. Michael Sweeney had a 52.

St. Mary’s had one girl qualify for regionals, as Natalie Muller finished with a 57.

“I’m really proud of all these kids,” St. Mary’s Coach Shaun Parton said. “It’s a great pleasure to spend every day with these kids.”

Clinton Middle School’s girls posted a third-place finish. Corryn May led the way for the Lady Hawks with a 50. Lucy Bailey had a 60, and Addy Slaven shot a 61.

Clinton’s Nathan Nichols qualified as an individual for the Hawks, firing a 52.

Norris Middle’s boys came in third with a team score of 199.

Brady Riggs had a 49. Isaac Pyatt, Cooper Mayes and Blaine Williams each had a 50. Lofton Jones had a 55, and alternate Brogan White had a 44.
