Wildcats surge past Farragut, reach title game

In its first season in District 4-4A baseball, Oak Ridge will play for the district tournament championship.

The Wildcats were slated to play for the title Tuesday at Farragut High School’s John Heatherly Field.

They earned their berth with a 10-5 victory over four-time defending Class 4A state champion and host Farragut in a winner’s bracket game Saturday.

After being retired in order in the top of the first inning, Oak Ridge erupted for eight runs in the second to seize an 8-0 lead, with just three hits.

The Wildcats finished with six hits against the Admirals. Warren East, the leadoff hitter, went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Parker Free was 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and an RBI.

Mikee Teasley went 1-for-3 with a two-run single. He also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and scored. Brooks Poteet finished 1-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.

Oak Ridge, the tournament’s No. 2 seed, opened postseason play with a 3-1 victory over Bearden on Friday night at Bobby Hopkins Field.

Teasley, a University of Tennessee signee, delivered a dominant outing on the mound, working 6.2 innings. He allowed one run on five hits with three walks and struck out 10 before giving way to Carson Feagan, who recorded the final out.

Teasley also hit a solo home run. East went 3-for-3 with a triple, a run scored and a stolen base. Joe Webb singled, scored and stole a base, while Kam Welch added two hits for the Wildcats, who are seeking their third consecutive state tournament appearance in 2026.

Oak Ridge (29-7-1) returned to action Tuesday, but results were not available at press time.
