A new farmers/vendors outdoor market for Rocky Top opened last Friday, and will operate each Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the parking lot behind 321 N. Main St., featuring fresh produce, local goods, and handmade crafts.

And even though it wasn’t ready yet for last week’s opening, the market, behind the Disney DIY and Crafts store, will have a covered pavilion stretching across the back of the parking lot to keep vendors out of the weather.

Construction on the pavilion began earlier in the week last week, after being approved by the Rocky Top Planning Commission.

Signs in front of the building announce the outdoor space as the Market Fair, and it plans to offer such items as fresh vegetables, berries, melons, breads, home-canned goods and bakery items, as well as homemade crafts, said Angel Disney, who owns the store with her husband, Steve Disney.

Some parking is available in the same lot where the merchants are set up, but other parking is available nearby, including in the Family Dollar store parking lot across Main Street, she said.

Vendors at last Friday’s event said that setting up a booth costs $20 per weekend, or $10 if they purchase a membership for the market.

Disney DIY & Buy Crafts opened in April in the old house at 312 Main St. The gallery inside the building features products of area artists and craftspeople, as well as space for people to come in and create their own crafts.
