Public invited to discuss school property sale
Anderson County Schools is looking to hear from the public at an upcoming meeting about the sale of its current Claxton Elementary School site.
People with thoughts on that sale and the site’s future can say them at a town hall meeting on Tuesday, July 21, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in that school’s gymnasium at 2218 Clinton Highway.
“The purpose of the meeting is to provide an opportunity for members of the community to express their views, share opinions, and offer input regarding the potential sale of the school property,” the school system’s announcement stated. “Community members, families, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion.”
Contractors are working to build and ready a new location for the school at nearby 105 Fellowship Lane.
To help pay for that project, the school system plans to sell the current site.
Anderson County Schools has estimated the property’s sale would bring in $3.5 million to $4 million.
