Young Wildcat golfers make statement
Oak Ridge High School’s golf team opened the home portion of its 2026 schedule Thursday.
The Wildcats finished third in a three-way match at Oak Ridge Country Club against Powell’s First Baptist Academy and Knoxville Central High School. The three schools played the front nine at ORCC.
The Eagles won the match with a team score of 144, followed by the Bobcats (154) and the Wildcats (158).
Oak Ridge picked up a solid effort from three freshmen as Britten Luttrell led the way for the Wildcats, finishing 1-over par with a 37. Fellow freshmen Jonah Wolfe and Titus Petrucci each carded a 39, while Kaleb Jackson rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats.
Coach Scott Hinton was pleased with the performances of his freshman trio in its first high school match on its home course.
“We had all three of our freshmen break 40,” Hinton said. “FBA is a good team, and they’re the defending Division II-A state champions. I’m very pleased with our freshmen.
“We’re still trying to get some things figured out, but being two weeks into the season, I’m happy with where we’re at, and I feel pretty good.”
Lady Wildcats take second: Oak Ridge finished second in its 2026 home debut. First Baptist won the three-way match with a score of 94. The Lady Wildcats finished just two strokes back with a 96, followed by the Lady Bobcats (102).
Lilli Grace Langenberg led Oak Ridge with a 46, while Brynn Green shot a 50.
It was a milestone round for Langenberg, who posted her best high school score.
“I think that was her best score as a Lady Wildcat,” Hinton said of Langenberg.
On Monday, Aug. 3, Oak Ridge’s boys competed at Centennial against Anderson County, Kingston and Wartburg Central.
The Mavericks won the match with a score of 165, followed by the Yellow Jackets (179), the Wildcats (181) and Wartburg (196).
Petrucci led the way for Oak Ridge with a 42, while Abel Hensley finished with a 43.
