Lady Mavericks follow draw with rout

The Lady Mavericks battled back to salvage a tie against Concord Christian School in the season opener for both teams Tuesday, Aug. 18, before breaking loose two days later with a 10-1 victory over Oliver Springs.
Against Concord Christian, the Lady Lions took a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute and held the upper hand — at least on the scoreboard — for most of the match.
“They scored a goal early, about six minutes in, and it was because we made a big mistake,” Anderson County Coach Chris Curtin said. “We finally got a goal with about 10 minutes left in the game.
“I really feel like we should’ve won that game,” he said. “We created some scoring opportunities, but we just couldn’t finish. I feel like we dominated the game.”
The Lady Mavericks finally broke through when Roxana Aguilar scored the equalizer with approximately 10 minutes remaining. Delila Colby assisted on the goal.
When Anderson County returned to the pitch later in the week, finishing was no longer a problem.
The Lady Mavericks erupted for 10 goals in a 10-1 rout of Oliver Springs.
Reagan Bedwell recorded a hat trick for Anderson County, while Lily Trent scored twice and added an assist.
Daniele Pack had a goal and an assist, while Aguilar followed her season-opening goal with another marker and three assists. Colby also found the back of the net and dished out two assists.
Natalie Sellers and Kate Swisher added goals for the Lady Mavericks, while Olivia Hayes and Makayla Prinki each recorded an assist.
“This was a good game for us,” Curtin said. “It was good because the whole team got on the field, got to play.”
