Evans honored for workforce leadership

Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton issued a proclamation May 19 honoring Evans for his work preparing students for careers in high-demand fields.
The proclamation was issued on behalf of state Reps. Rick Scarbrough, Kelly Keisling and Ed Butler.
Evans began working at TCAT Oneida in January 2017. Under his leadership, approximately 400 students have completed the Powerline Maintenance and Construction program, which has achieved a 90% placement rate.
Evans has developed partnerships with more than 200 electric, telephone and communications companies, expanding training and employment opportunities for students. His efforts also have helped women enter the powerline industry, with 12 women completing the program and graduates being hired by Knoxville Utilities Board, Pike Electric and Service Electric.
Evans also established training partnerships with KUB for electric and fiber department apprentices and developed commercial driver’s license training for Class A drivers and linemen.
In addition, Evans helped establish TCAT Oneida as a Commercial Driver License Homeland Security testing site, and worked with local utilities to provide CDL training and scholarships.
The proclamation commended Evans for his “vision, perseverance and commitment to student success” and his contributions to TCAT Oneida, Tennessee’s workforce and the students served by its programs.
