Lady Mavericks sharpen game in Gatlinburg
It was a busy week on the pitch for the Anderson County High School girls soccer team, one that featured plenty of goals and a weekend test against some stiff competition.
The Lady Mavericks spent the weekend at the Smoky Mountain Cup, where they faced a challenging field and remained competitive despite dropping two of their three matches in Gatlinburg.
“I thought we played well,” Anderson County Coach Chris Curtin said. “I don’t really worry about the scores, and I don’t worry so much about wins and losses.
“I’m more concerned with how we’re playing and how we’re growing as a team, and I think we did that.”
The Lady Mavericks (3-2-1) played two matches Saturday. They opened the day with a 3-1 victory over Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts.
Roxana Aguilar scored two goals for Anderson County, while Lily Trent added another. Kate Swisher and Kali Valentyne each had an assist in the match.
Anderson County closed Saturday’s action with a 2-0 loss to Ensworth before dropping a 2-0 decision to Cooper of Kentucky.
The Lady Mavericks opened the week with an offensive outburst, cruising to a 9-0 victory at Oneida on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Aguilar led the attack with three goals and two assists, while Trent scored twice. Delila Colby also found the back of the net twice.
Swisher contributed a goal and three assists, while Daniele Pack added a goal. Reagan Bedwell also recorded an assist.
